MONEYCLIP Files Conversion Utility
If you wish to use files created by a version of Moneyclip
prior to version 3.0 it will be necessary to convert your
files to the expanded format. A conversion utility program,
"$CONVERT.EXE"," has been included for this purpose.
PLEASE NOTE!: Be sure to read the following instructions in
their entirety before attempting the conversion. The final
integrity of you data files depends on it!
"Just in case", make a backup copy of the following files and
put it aside. Then if something goes wrong while you are
converting the files you will not lose your data.
ACCOUNTS.BAL
CONFIG.DAT
CREDITS.DAT
CREDITS.IDX (if it exists)
DEBITS.DAT
DEBITS.IDX (if it exists)
Copy "$CONVERT.EXE" to the drive and/or directory containing
the above files. Be sure you are in the proper directory and
type "$CONVERT" (without quotes) and press <ENTER>.
A menu with the following options will be displayed:
Convert v1.x to v3.0 - - - Converts files created by any
version One release of MONEYCLIP.
Convert v2.x to v3.0 - - - Converts files created by any
version Two release of MONEYCLIP.
Reassign Acct Numbers - - Since version 3.0 of MONEYCLIP is
capable of utilizing up to forty
accounts, you may wish to change
the account numbers that were set
up with your previous version to
correspond to a new numbering
scheme. Doing so, however, will
corrupt your debits data file in
that the old entries' account
numbers will not correspond to
your new entries. Changing the
account numbers is not, by any
means, required. You may just add
new accounts, if any, to the end
of the list of accounts, thus
eliminating the need to make any
changes. However, if you decide
to change them this option will
allow you to change all old data
file account number notations to
match the new numbering scheme.
-1-
Only the old data files are
changed. You will need to make
the changes to the program's
configuration in the normal
manner.
CAUTION: Perform this action ONLY
one time! Additional use WILL
corrupt your data. Also, it must
be done before the next menu
option is selected.
Delete Unused Files - - - Removes the old data files that
are no longer needed by MONEYCLIP.
Do not perform this function until
all other use of this conversion
utility is accomplished.
After performing the selected steps to convert your files
replace the old version of "MONEYCLP.EXE" with the new one.
You are now ready to use MONEYCLIP Version 3.0. If you choose
to change the account numbers of your old data files the
following steps MUST be performed:
1. Select "Account Balances" from the main menu to display
the account balances and make a list, on paper, of the
account names and balance amounts. An easier way is to
turn on your printer and press <Print Screen>.
2. Go to the Utility/Configure menu and re-configure your
accounts, adding any new ones desired. Be sure the
account numbers correspond to the numbers you changed
during the use of the conversion utility program.
3. Now go back to the main menu and choose "Accounts
Balances". Select "Edit Balances" and change the account
balances of each of your old accounts to match the list
you made in step #1. This is necessary because the
program records the balances of accounts based on the
account number, not it's name. Be sure to check any new
accounts you created to be sure that their account balance
is correct.
After making this change the first Monthly Report you
print may be somewhat meaningless.
